Name: Kat Saunt
DOB: 17/05/1984
Sex: F
Location: England, UK
Tools: Tablet, Photoshop/opencanvas/Paint tool SAI/ traditional media.
Influences: Golden Age cartoons, retro anime, BL manga, Hammer Horror, Movie posters, Hans Bellmer, Giorgio de Chirico, Dada, Surrealism, Pop Surrealism, Magical Realism, Marcel Duchamp, Saki, Steve Aylett, Michael Moorcock, concept art, character design, cute stuff, Nerd-culture, ball jointed dolls, rock, indie, hiphop, electroclash, metal, the uncanny valley, trash fiction, kitsch, bad taste, the internet.

KP Saunt describes herself as a dedicated hyper-conformist. To those who know her, she is simply a "fucking legend".
Currently at large in Northern England, she divides her time between daubing paint on canvas, writing angry letters and photoshop. She has spent far too long worrying about how her illustration work fits along side her fine art practice only to conclude such distinctions aren't relevant to her.
In 2010 she graduated with a BA (hons) in Fine Art from Northumbria University.

ART
All the paintings on this site were created between 2004 and the present. They are either oil paint on canvas or on board. Recently I've decided I prefer the latter. Re-occuring themes in my work include: Emphasis of a painting as a 2-dimensional plane, spacial ambiguity, pop and trash culture, magic realism and decorative motifs. I tend to work to formulas since I am often overwhelmed by the sheer amount of visual material from which I take inspiration. Whatever concepts are behind a particular work, I also hope that it functions equally well on a purely visual level.

SITE
I've had the domain nijikon.net since 2003 which makes it one of my longest lasting relationships. It's been through lots of different versions and only disappeared once, for about a week, when I forgot to pay for my hosting. This relatively simple banana-inspired layout was, as usual, hand-coded in notepad because when it comes to webdesign, I'm apparently stuck in 1999.
